Ivan Dolac

is a tourist village situated on the southern part of the island of Hvar, 10 km from Jelsa, 20 km from Stari Grad and 38 km from the town of Hvar. The village is connected to the rest of the island with a 1.5-kilometre long tunnel. Ivan Dolac is famous for its vineyards that give wine of exceptional quality. The village of Ivan Dolac was first settled in the 15th century, and traces of traditional Dalmatian architecture are visible all around.

Ivan Dolac is proud of its environment, full of aromatic plants (lavender and rosemary) and other flora of Mediterranean climate. Its gravel beaches make it a very attractive destination for all those who want a peaceful vacation without the city rush. Picturesque Mediterranean natural surrounding and its closeness to the sea , offer you the immense varieties of sights, day and night long, and make the place an attractive destination your holidays.

 

Climate

The island of Hvar is situated in the zone of the true Mediterranean climate, also known as “the climate of an olive tree”, which is characterized by clear, blue sky. The annul average of sunny hours is 2726, while the maximum of 3053 hours was reached in 2003. In multitude of sunny days, 18th of July is the sunniest with the average of 12 hours, 27 minutes and 36 seconds of sunshine.

The benefits of the mild, mediterranean climate are contributed to the proximity of the ocean. The average month temperature of the sea, through the period of five months (June to October), is 20°C, which makes this climate even more attractive. It is not unusual for the temperatures of the sea to reach more than 27°C. The average, month temperature of the air is in four months (June to September) is higher than 20°C, and just two months (January and February) have the average, month temperature lower than 10°C.

 

Beaches

Lovely pebbled beaches that gently slope towards the warm ocean make going to the beach fun even for the smallest children. For those who prefer sunbathing away from the beach, there are numerous easily accessible spots along the 1000-metre long shore. Other than swimming, sunbathing and going for walks enjoy a ride in a rented motorboat or pedal boat.

If you don’t feel like preparing your own meal, you can visit one of the two local restaurants, which offer a wide variety of food from pizza, to pasta, risotto, seafood, and other delicacies. If you are up for an authentic Dalmatian meal prepared in a traditional style, visit some of indigenous restaurants in Pitve, Vrisnik, Zavala …

 

Entertainment

In the evening, when the sound of chirping crickets fills the air, and the sky reveals a thousand stars, we recommend romantic strolls along the shore. If you are looking for a more lively evening, you’ll have to hop in your car and drive 10 km to the town of Jelsa or Stari Grad where you can chose between several night clubs. If you don’t mind driving a bit further, town of Hvar will offer even more opportunity for entertainment.

Jelsa is an old, historic town surrounded with lush vineyards and olive groves. When visiting Stari Grad, make sure to stop by the house of Petar Hektorovic, one of the most famous Croatian renaissance authors. The town of Hvar has in recent years become a must-see spot for nautical tourists and celebrities from around the world.

If you like hiking and biking, you will find a variety of hiking and biking trails and roads across the island. You can a number of stops in small towns and villages strewn along the way, like Pitve, Humac, Dol, Vrisnik or Svirce.
